Wearables

My mother was a seamstress with a keen eye for colour and form and my grandmother was a knitter, lacemaker and seamstress. Sadly,  I did not learn their skills nor gain patience for sewing but I did inherit their love of textiles and fibres. I collected endless swatches of fabrics and yarn, Magpie like, with no real plan for their future.

I was writing an article about the textile industry when I was shown around a disused wool mill. Coloured fibres skitting across the floor and gathering like tumbleweed touched something in me. I met some weavers and feltmakers and learned I could make my own fabric from wool. Durable, warm sustainable and much like clay under the right conditions.

Every piece I make is unique. I do not follow any patterns and the colours are mostly blended by myself.  I use fibres in a painterly way.
